Iran offers two-day Hormuz reopening if US meets demands
Iran said Monday it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the US meets its demands, shortening a previously proposed one-week timeline. The move signals Tehran's stated willingness to restore security and resume negotiations. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said an exchange of messages with Washington is ongoing via mediators, with progress depending on US acceptance of Iranian conditions. Demands include ending the Middle East war, unfreezing Iranian assets, lifting oil sanctions, and halting the US naval blockade. Iran has controlled the strait since late February, targeting unauthorized vessels, while the US imposed a blockade and new sanctions. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also urged Washington to accept an Iran-Oman transit route and reduce regional troop numbers, as US and Israeli threats of renewed attacks persist.
