Iran leaves Doha talks as draft US deal proposal circulates
Iranian negotiators have left talks with Qatari mediators aimed at ending the war with the United States, and a draft proposal is being circulated with a possible follow-up meeting, an official briefed on the talks said Monday. The negotiators departed Sunday, not due to difficulties, the official said. Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated demands are clear, including ending the US naval blockade and addressing Iran's requirements before any final agreement or reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's foreign minister had suggested the strait could open within two days under a deal, after the US rejected an initial proposal. Diplomacy continues amid concerns of escalation following Tuesday's US midterm elections, though Tehran does not expect them to "give birth to a new US."
