Iran says Strait of Hormuz could reopen in two days if US meets conditions
Iran said Monday it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the US meets its demands, with an exchange of messages ongoing through mediators. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said "everything depends" on US acceptance of Tehran's conditions, which include ending the Middle East war, unfreezing Iranian assets, lifting oil sanctions, and ending the US naval blockade. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also demanded a new transit route agreed with Oman and reduced US troop numbers. The proposal comes amid concerns over potential US-Israel strikes on Iran after Tuesday's US midterm elections, with Israeli PM Netanyahu reportedly pressing President Trump for immediate action. The strait, carrying nearly one-fifth of global oil supply, has faced disruptions since the US-Iran war began in February.
