Qatar advances US-Iran peace plan as Tehran offers faster Hormuz reopening

rbc.ua (Ukrainian) —

Qatar is advancing a peace plan between the US and Iran, with a new round of negotiations completed on November 1 and further meetings not ruled out, according to Reuters. Tehran proposes reopening the Strait of Hormuz in two days instead of seven under a future agreement. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the seven-step plan from September remains the basis, requiring the US to lift its naval blockade before any final deal. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi was in Doha to facilitate message exchanges through Qatari mediators. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the strait could reopen within two days under the agreement, faster than the original seven-day timeline. US President Donald Trump previously rejected Iran's initial proposal, though diplomatic contacts continue amid threats of renewed military action.
