Iran shoots down three US drones near Strait of Hormuz, IRGC says
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it shot down three US drones near the Strait of Hormuz, including an MQ-9, using electronic warfare and a new air defense system, escalating military tensions with Washington. The IRGC said two MQM-170 reconnaissance drones were downed south of Qeshm Island, bringing the total captured of that type to four, and an MQ-9 was intercepted east of the strait. Both nations have signaled continued diplomatic efforts toward a possible settlement. US President Donald Trump claimed oil prices dropped nearly $10 per barrel on expectations of no war, while Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about negotiations. Iran's foreign minister warned of stronger responses to any military action and reiterated demands to end the US naval blockade.
