Kim Yo Jong Rejects US Claim Linking North Korea to Binance Hack
Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, rejected US allegations that Pyongyang was behind the $6.3 billion Binance hack, calling them a "political provocation" and an attempt to damage North Korea's international image. In a Monday statement carried by state news agency KCNA, Kim criticized the FBI's link to the attack, calling the accusation "absurd" and accusing Washington of misleading global opinion. She suggested examining who would receive recovered funds could reveal the true mastermind, referencing US plans to confiscate stolen crypto assets. The FBI had accused North Korean-linked hacking group TraderTraitor of the October 29 attack, with blockchain firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis also pointing to Pyongyang. Binance resumed operations after covering about 95% of stolen assets from reserves, while US agencies urged exchanges to block related wallets.
