North Korea denies FBI claim of $6.3 billion Binance crypto theft
North Korea denied FBI accusations that it orchestrated a $6.3 billion cryptocurrency theft from Binance, with Kim Yo Jong calling the claim a "grave political provocation" on Tuesday. Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un, dismissed the FBI's allegations as "absurd rhetoric" in a KCNA statement, noting prior US accusations over the February 2025 ByBit hack. The FBI identified the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor as responsible for the Binance theft. Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange with 335 million users, saw cryptocurrency prices fall sharply Friday after the hack was announced. TraderTraitor is linked to the Lazarus group, affiliated with North Korean intelligence, which was accused of the 2014 Sony Pictures hack.
