North Korea denies FBI claim of $6.3 billion Binance hack
The FBI has accused North Korea-linked hacker group TraderTraitor of stealing over $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, prompting a sharp denial from Pyongyang. Kim Yo Jong dismissed the claim as absurd rhetoric and warned of unspecified consequences for U.S. relations. The FBI stated the stolen funds were converted to Ethereum and may be laundered through decentralized finance services. Binance froze less than half the compromised assets and temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals. TraderTraitor was also blamed for the February 2025 Bybit attack. The accusation adds tension as President Trump seeks to revive talks with Pyongyang, which has not publicly responded to his proposals. U.S. officials have long linked North Korean hackers to digital asset thefts, possibly funding military programs despite sanctions.
