North Korea calls FBI Binance hack accusations a 'grave political provocation'

lefigaro.fr (French) —

North Korea denounced FBI accusations that Pyongyang orchestrated the $6.3 billion hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, calling them a "grave political provocation." Kim Yo-jong, sister of leader Kim Jong-un, dismissed the claims as "absurd rhetoric." In a statement via state media KCNA, Kim Yo-jong said the FBI's allegations offered "nothing new," citing prior US claims that North Korea was behind the February 2025 ByBit hack. She accused Washington of deceiving international public opinion by blaming Pyongyang for global cybercrimes. Kim used North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in her response. The FBI has not yet publicly commented on her statement.
