North Korea denies role in Binance hack after US accusation
North Korea has denied US accusations that it was behind the theft of billions of euros from crypto platform Binance, with Kim Yo-jong calling the claim "absurd rhetoric." The FBI said last weekend that North Korea was responsible for stealing over 5.6 billion euros in virtual assets from Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, in what would be the biggest financial heist ever. A state-directed hacking unit allegedly converted stolen bitcoins into ethereum, with further laundering phases possible. Kim Yo-jong dismissed the accusation as a "serious political provocation" and referenced a similar FBI claim about a 1.5 billion dollar hack at ByBit earlier this year. Binance said most stolen crypto has since been reimbursed.
