North Korea denies FBI claims of record crypto heist from Binance
North Korea on Monday strongly denied FBI allegations that Pyongyang was behind the theft of virtual assets from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, which resumed customer withdrawals of stored bitcoins on Sunday. The hackers stole cryptocurrencies worth approximately $6.3 billion from Binance, with the company securing funds to cover 95 percent of the stolen assets. The remaining five percent consists of less liquid tokens that may take longer to recover. Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, called the FBI accusation a crude political provocation and absurd rhetoric. The denial came amid a North Korean test of cruise missiles, with state media reporting new cluster munitions capable of devastating a five-to-six-hectare target area.
