North Korea denies FBI claim it hacked Binance for $6.3 billion

letemps.ch (French) —

North Korea denied FBI accusations that it was behind the record $6.3 billion hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, calling the claims "absurd rhetoric" and a "grave provocation." Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un, rejected the FBI's Saturday allegations linking the North Korean TraderTraitor group to the theft, which the US also blamed for the $1.5 billion Bybit hack in 2025. The FBI identified TraderTraitor as part of the Lazarus Group, affiliated with North Korean intelligence. Analysts suggest the denial aims to preserve money-laundering channels, as the stolen sum equals nearly a quarter of North Korea's estimated annual GDP.
