North Korea denies Binance hack link as billions in stolen crypto traced

cnbc.com —

North Korea denied U.S. allegations linking it to the $6.3 billion Binance hack, calling the accusation a "grave political provocation," as blockchain researchers traced billions in stolen cryptocurrency across networks. Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un, denounced the FBI's attribution of the attack to North Korea-linked hacking group TraderTraitor, according to state media Tuesday. She accused Washington of misleading international opinion by portraying global cybercrimes as North Korea's work. Blockchain firms Elliptic and Chainalysis tracked stolen funds through thousands of wallets across multiple blockchains, with about $2.85 billion frozen or seized and $3.24 billion still in linked addresses. The laundering has moved slower than after the February 2025 Bybit hack, with most funds remaining in bitcoin and ether.
