Xi to skip CEO entourage at Washington summit with Trump
Chinese President Xi Jinping is not expected to bring any chief executive officers to Washington for his summit with President Donald Trump, according to a senior US administration official, even as Trump prepares to host a lavish state dinner with prominent American tech executives. Trump is hosting Xi for talks on Thursday and a state dinner expected to include Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, OpenAI's Sam Altman, Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Apple's Tim Cook, Tesla's Elon Musk, and others. Trump has said he expects to notch "a lot of different deals" during the summit. The lopsided executive list reflects differing expectations, with Trump facing midterm elections in November and Xi approaching a fourth term amid a slowing economy. Tensions remain over AI, critical minerals, and Taiwan, while the two sides are still divided on a trade truce extension.
