Xi skips CEO delegation at Trump summit as US-China tensions rise

President Donald Trump is preparing to host China's President Xi Jinping for a summit in Washington, but Xi is not expected to bring a delegation of top business executives, unlike the prominent US technology leaders slated to attend the state dinner. This raises questions about the prospects for new business deals between the world's two largest economies. A senior US administration official said Xi will not bring any chief executive officers as part of a business delegation. US tech executives expected at the dinner include Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang, Sam Altman, Satya Nadella, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, and Michael Dell, alongside finance leaders like Jamie Dimon and Jane Fraser. Trump officials, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, will also participate. The meeting occurs amid rising US-China tensions over artificial intelligence, critical mineral exports, and Taiwan, with divisions remaining on a trade truce extension. During Xi's 2015 state visit, he brought a sizable business contingent, including Alibaba's Jack Ma and Tencent's Pony Ma. Trump has also defended building a massive White House ballroom to host the event.
