Trump-Xi summit agenda: AI, trade, Taiwan, climate gaps

Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington this week for his first state visit in over a decade, with talks expected to cover AI safety and trade tensions while likely skipping climate cooperation. The summit comes as Trump has overhauled the US-China relationship and faces a stronger China than a decade ago. AI is expected to be high on the agenda despite being absent from their May meeting in Beijing, with calls for a safety framework amid warnings about the technology's risks, though Trump has dismissed such warnings as a "hoax." Trade remains the biggest thorn, with a temporary truce set to expire in November, while Taiwan, human rights cases, and regional conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East may also be discussed.
