US invites Putin to G20 summit in Miami

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami in December, stating that problems must be solved by meeting with those one disagrees with. Rubio said the invitation offers Putin a chance to engage with the US president and other world leaders, and expressed hope he will accept. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier in September advocated for a meeting with Putin at the summit. Putin is internationally wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes, but the US is not an ICC member, so he faces no arrest risk. The summit takes place December 14-15 at Trump National Doral Miami, a property owned by the US president.
