Thousands rally in several German states against AfD after Saxony-Anhalt win

Following the AfD's election victory in Saxony-Anhalt, thousands of people demonstrated in several German states, including Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin, to oppose the party ahead of upcoming regional elections. Minister-President Manuela Schwesig vowed to stop the AfD's "fantasies of power." At a rally in Schwerin, Schwesig said the situation is "very, very serious" and that Saxony-Anhalt shows the AfD has a real chance of gaining power. She called for respect and against "hate, incitement, and destruction," while unveiling a campaign poster with the slogan "The woman against blue." The alliance "Zusammen bewegen" organized demonstrations in twelve towns in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, with more actions planned before the September 20th election. In Berlin, about 5,000 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate, and hundreds protested in Potsdam, where organizers called a potential AfD-led government a "caesura for democratic culture in Germany."
