Sepp Müller to run for CDU leadership in Saxony-Anhalt

After the CDU's poor performance in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, MP Sepp Müller has announced his candidacy for state party chairman, with a party conference planned for autumn. Müller, 37, a deputy parliamentary group leader, declared his bid after a state board meeting in Magdeburg. Current leader Sven Schulze, who led the party to a collapse from 37.1% to 17.2% of the vote, will not run again. The party's state parliamentary group shrank from 40 to 15 seats. Schulze acknowledged the CDU lost its mandate to govern, now held by the AfD, and confirmed leadership elections will occur in late November or early December.
