Hamburg protests draw 1,500 against AfD's Saxony-Anhalt win

Around 1,500 people demonstrated in Hamburg's city center on Sunday evening against a rightward shift and fascism, according to police, following the AfD's election victory in Saxony-Anhalt. The march started at Jungfernstieg and passed the Hamburg AfD offices. Protesters left chalk messages outside the party office, including "Human dignity is inviolable" and "Never again is now." The Hamburg Alliance Against the Right organized the rally, which saw significantly more attendees than the 500 originally registered. Police reported the demonstration remained peaceful, though some participants set off flares. The rally aimed to show solidarity with refugees, civil society projects, and anti-fascists affected by the rightward shift in Saxony-Anhalt. A planned closing rally at Rathausmarkt was moved due to a ban on gatherings near the parliament, as the AfD faction held a meeting there.
