AfD open to minority government in Saxony-Anhalt after election win

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is open to forming a minority government in Saxony-Anhalt after winning 43.8% of the vote in Sunday's state election, its best result ever, party co-leader Tino Chrupalla said Monday. Chrupalla said the party will send talks offers to all parties and confirmed it will nominate lead candidate Ulrich Siegmund for state premier. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), which cleared the 5% threshold, has said it will not block an AfD minority government. Other parties have maintained their refusal to form a coalition with the AfD under the "firewall." Chrupalla argued a minority government would be "absolutely sensible" and "promising," adding that the public wants parties to work together on substantive issues.
