German employers warn far-right win in Saxony-Anhalt threatens business climate

German employers warned of economic consequences after the far-right AfD won the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, calling the result "poison" for the business location. The Confederation of German Employers' Associations called it a "slap in the face" for the democratic center. The AfD could potentially enter a state government for the first time since World War II, while the CDU suffered major losses. Employers' chief Steffen Kampeter stressed Germany needs open markets, international skilled workers, and a reliable Europe, criticizing any questioning of the euro or EU. The BDI industry federation urged the federal government to accelerate reforms, saying the election result must not lead to political stagnation. It called for decisive implementation of an agenda boosting investment, innovation, and growth.
