Tajani: AfD is Italy's worst enemy, Forza Italia differs from Lega

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called Germany's AfD party "Italy's worst enemy" and a "bad omen" after its electoral gains in Saxony and Thuringia, citing its origins in opposing Southern European countries during the euro crisis. Tajani, leader of Forza Italia, stressed his party's Christian, liberal, reformist, pro-European, and Atlanticist identity, explicitly distancing it from coalition partner Lega on these issues, while also rejecting parallels with AfD and France's National Rally. Despite these differences, Tajani affirmed government stability, stating Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is not anti-European or anti-Atlanticist, as otherwise Forza Italia would not remain in the ruling coalition.
