Shehbaz Sharif warns India at UNGA: Stopping Indus water would be an act of war

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned India at the UN General Assembly that any attempt to stop, obstruct, or divert Pakistan's share of water from the Indus River system would be considered an act of war. Sharif stated that India's unilateral decision to shelve the Indus Waters Treaty has no legal basis, claiming the river system is a lifeline for the entire region. He asserted that UN experts and a Court of Arbitration have rejected India's claims, affirming the treaty remains valid and binding. The 1960 Indus Waters Treaty governs water sharing between the two nations. India suspended the treaty following the Pahalgam attack, marking a significant shift in the bilateral water-sharing arrangement.
