India backs two-state solution for lasting peace in West Asia

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India's support for a two-state solution to achieve lasting peace in West Asia during his address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, a statement highlighted by the Palestine Mission to the UN. Jaishankar emphasized that durable peace requires a political settlement and noted India's contributions to humanitarian assistance for Palestinians. He also condemned the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel while expressing concern over civilian deaths in the ensuing conflict. India has consistently backed a negotiated settlement involving a sovereign Palestinian state and has supported Palestine's UN membership. Jaishankar also called for an end to the war in Ukraine and stressed the importance of stability and security for global peace.
