Pakistan PM Sharif Criticizes India on Kashmir and Water Treaty at UN

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a scathing attack on India at the UN General Assembly, raising the Kashmir dispute, the Indus Waters Treaty, and religious tensions, while warning that water pressure could have serious consequences. Sharif accused India of human rights violations in Kashmir and attempts to alter the region's demographic character, pledging Pakistan's continued diplomatic and moral support for Kashmiris' right to self-determination. He also criticized India's decision to place the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, calling it "valid, binding and fully operative." Sharif warned that any attempt to divert Pakistan's water share would be treated as an act of war, and accused an "RSS-driven Hindutva ideology" of fueling religious hatred in India. He also revisited the 2025 conflict, crediting US President Donald Trump with preventing a wider war between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
