India warns of AI security risks at UNGA, urges safe innovation

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar flagged AI's security risks at a UNGA event, calling for safe and trusted innovation while co-chairing a session on AI and maritime security with Greece. Jaishankar said AI can enhance maritime monitoring, search and rescue, and port resilience, but warned it could enable sophisticated cyber operations and complicate accountability as autonomy increases, compressing decision-making time for governments. He urged that UN Charter and international law guide AI use, and called for transparency and capacity building. He also welcomed India-GCC free trade talks and signed the UN cybercrime convention.
