India warns Pakistan at UN over cross-border terrorism

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar warned at the UN General Assembly on Saturday that New Delhi will defend itself against cross-border terrorism, implicitly criticizing Pakistan without naming it. He accused a "serial practitioner of terrorism" of misrepresenting facts and seeking to normalize terrorism. Jaishankar's remarks followed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Friday address, which raised Kashmir, the Indus waters issue, and bilateral tensions. The minister also urged accountability for state sponsors of terrorism, emphasizing the need to expose and counter terror financing, a long-standing Indian priority at global forums. The speech came after Jaishankar clashed with a Pakistani journalist in New York, retorting, "A terrorist country is asking me that question." He also stressed that peace requires more than the absence of war, calling for strengthened stability and predictability in global affairs.
