Indian Diplomat Petal Gahlot Rebukes Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif at UN Again

India's First Secretary at the UN, Petal Gahlot, delivered a sharp rebuttal to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's UNGA address, warning that cross-border terrorism "will have consequences." This marks the second consecutive year she has responded to Sharif from the global stage. Gahlot, an IFS officer since 2015, rejected Sharif's claims on Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty, invoking Osama bin Laden's presence near Pakistan's military academy and accusing Islamabad of "terrorism, deception and double standards." She asserted Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and highlighted rights abuses in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In her 2025 response, Gahlot dismissed Sharif's speech as "absurd theatrics" and accused Pakistan of "glorifying terrorism," referencing the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. She reiterated that India-Pakistan issues must be resolved bilaterally, demanding Pakistan shut down terrorist camps and hand over wanted terrorists.
