India and Russia plan annual summit, discuss Ukraine and West Asia

Indian and Russian foreign ministers met in New York during the UN General Assembly, discussing bilateral ties, the Ukraine crisis, and West Asia, while planning an annual summit in Russia later this year. The meeting covered Russian-Indian cooperation, upcoming bilateral contacts, and regional issues. Both sides expressed intent to strengthen their strategic partnership and maintain coordination at the UN, G20, and BRICS. The BRICS Parliamentary Forum is expected in India in October. Jaishankar also met Iran's foreign minister regarding the Gulf conflict, including the Strait of Hormuz situation. Iran proposed a seven-day plan to reopen the strait, which was reportedly rejected by the US. Oman and Iran discussed transit fee systems, though Oman opposes compulsory fees.
