India Has Right to Shape Its Own AI Ecosystem: Jaishankar at UN

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told the UN General Assembly that every nation has the right to shape its own AI ecosystem, including developing models and deployment strategies aligned with national priorities. Speaking on Saturday, Jaishankar said India views AI as a key part of its partnership agenda with the Global South, calling it a driver for human empowerment and economic prosperity. He stressed the need for technology democratisation and mutual respect as AI becomes more accessible. Jaishankar also warned that AI misuse is sharpening bias and undermining mutual respect, while highlighting the "4F crisis" of food, fuel, fertilizer, and finance facing the Global South. He called for advancing "cultural rebalancing" alongside economic and political shifts.
