Jaishankar hits back at Pakistani journalist over terrorism question at UN

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar sharply rebuked a Pakistani journalist at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday after the reporter asked when India would stop supporting terrorism in Pakistan. Jaishankar responded, "A terrorist nation is asking me this question." The exchange occurred after Jaishankar and Liberia's Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti launched a new "Group of Friends" initiative on maritime security. India's UN envoy Harish Parvathaneni then told the journalist the answer was clear. The incident followed a similar confrontation where an Indian reporter questioned Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif about sheltering terrorists. India and Liberia jointly launched the initiative to protect commercial ships and sailors amid rising threats in key sea routes like the Red Sea and Gulf. The move follows the September 23 attack on the MV Cape Dao near Oman that killed an Indian sailor, with maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropping sharply.
