Sharif warns at UNGA that Indus water diversion would be an act of war

Sharif alleged India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty has no legal basis, claiming UN experts and the Court of Arbitration rejected India's position. He said the treaty remains valid and binding, and warned against weaponizing water. The treaty, signed in 1960, was placed in abeyance following the Pahalgam attack. Sharif also praised President Trump for helping avert a 2025 war between the nuclear-armed neighbors, a claim India has rejected.
