India tells UN: Distant nations pay heavy price for conflicts not their own

India's External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told the UN General Assembly on Saturday that distant countries are paying a heavy price for conflicts they are not responsible for, as violence undermines global peace and development. He expressed concern over Gulf tensions, attacks on commercial vessels, the Ukraine war entering its fifth year, and terrorism, calling for a two-state solution in West Asia and accountability for state-sponsored cross-border terrorism. Jaishankar also warned that "everything is being weaponized" amid hyper-competition, hurting the Global South. Highlighting India's development progress and 600 projects in 78 countries, he said the world is moving toward multipolarity, urging civilized dialogue and quoting Gandhi: "There is no path to peace. Peace is the path."
