g1.globo.com (Portuguese) —

Former Paraguayan President Santiago Peña was transferred to a military prison early Saturday, hours after being impeached and placed under house arrest, according to Paraguayan newspaper ABC. The transfer occurred just before midnight Friday for security reasons, as a crowd of protesters gathered outside his home. Peña was removed from office Friday afternoon and had his arrest ordered for involvement in the collapse of Banco Ueno, which triggered economic and political crisis in Paraguay.
