ru.apa.az (Russian) —

A Paraguayan judge ordered the temporary arrest of former President Santiago Peña, who is accused in the collapse of Ueno Bank, which froze the accounts of about 3 million clients. Judge Humberto Otazú issued the order, and Peña will be held at a presidential guard regiment. Prosecutors have charged him with abuse of trust and managing property for personal interests, linked to alleged irregularities in placing state and pension funds in the bank. The Senate approved impeachment on November 6, and Peña was detained after removal from office. The central bank placed Ueno under external administration on November 3, freezing all accounts. Paraguay's population is about 7 million.
