Binance hackers breached platform via fake job interview

nos.nl (Dutch) —

Hackers breached cryptocurrency platform Binance last week via a fake job application process, stealing over $6 billion. Binance described it as a sophisticated, multi-phase operation. A Binance developer was contacted by a fake recruiter, who built trust through social media and a video call. A second call required downloading a task containing modified code, which replaced a legitimate development tool with a malicious version, enabling remote access and theft of cryptocurrencies. Binance says it will reimburse all damages and has closed the access points used in the attack. The FBI attributes the hack to North Korea, which denies involvement.
