A 15-year-old student lost his hand during mass school protests in France on Monday after picking up a tear gas canister in Lens, northern France, according to local authorities and AFP. The teenager was hospitalized in Lille and is not in life-threatening condition. All classes at the school have been moved to distance learning following the incident, the school announced on Facebook. The protests, which began in mid-September over poor education conditions, have turned violent in many areas, with 24 schools burned or looted and hundreds closed for a second week. Police chief Patrice Faure warned rioters have hijacked the movement, urging parents to keep children away from violence.
