France suspends classes in up to 500 high schools after student blockades

ouest-france.fr (French) —

France's Education Minister announced Sunday that classes will be fully or partially suspended Monday in 400 to 500 high schools where security conditions are not met, following a week of student blockades. The minister, Édouard Geffray, said Friday saw a similar number of schools suspend classes, with Monday expected to see a gradual, partial resumption. He also reported 24 schools were burned or ransacked and 78 education staff injured since the movement began. The student protests, launched earlier this week, involve demands related to dilapidated classrooms, inequality, and teacher shortages, according to reports.
