Family of blinded Tours teen condemns online hate campaign

ouest-france.fr (French) —

The family of Maël, a 16-year-old who lost sight in his right eye after being hit by a projectile during a school blockade in Tours, has condemned a wave of hateful online messages against him. In a statement, relatives said Maël has no involvement in any militant or political activity, describing him as a teenager caught up in events. They also denounced fake photos and a fraudulent online fundraiser, and have filed a complaint over the injury. The incident occurred Wednesday during a blockade at Lycée Balzac. Prosecutors said the eye injuries were compatible with a defensive ball launcher (LBD), and an investigation has been opened by the police inspectorate.
