Belfort student files attempted murder complaint against officer after arrest

ladepeche.fr (French) —

A 17-year-old student detained after a police officer was beaten in Belfort is filing a complaint for attempted murder against the officer, his lawyer announced Sunday. The student alleges the officer held his head underwater during an arrest. The teenager is one of two people in custody over the attack on the officer, who was kicked and punched while on the ground. Videos circulating online show the officer trying to subdue the youth in water, with the lawyer claiming the officer "put his head in the water." The lawyer also accused the public prosecutor of lying about not knowing of the complaint, stating his client, a Bulgarian national, lacked an interpreter. He alleged the prosecutor organized a procedure to "extinguish the scandal" of the alleged attempted murder.
