Belfort police attack: two students indicted after officer beaten

estrepublicain.fr (French) —

Two students from Lycée Courbet in Belfort were indicted Sunday for aggravated violence against a police officer, a crime punishable by up to ten years in prison. The officer was attacked Friday after attempting to arrest one of the teenagers. The first suspect, who turns 18 this month, admitted to kicking the 59-year-old police commander twice in the head while he was on the ground. He is also charged with throwing stones at officers, attempted arson, and property damage. His bag contained gloves, a ski mask, a lighter, aerosol cans, a scarf, and a liquid he claimed was for unclogging toilets. He said he went to the Savoureuse riverbank to wash his hands.
