French PM sends roadmap to ministers to address high school student demands
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu sent a "roadmap" to his ministers on Sunday to set a timeline for addressing some demands from high school students who have been mobilizing since last week. The government expects classes to be fully or partially suspended in 400 to 500 high schools on Monday due to security concerns. Lecornu ordered the launch this week of a "priority treatment" for replacing long-term absences and unfilled teaching posts in each academy, with a first assessment due October 16. He also scheduled a Tuesday meeting with regional presidents on school renovations and requested initial proposals to improve Parcoursup by the end of October. The protest movement, which began September 17 in the Paris region, spread nationwide and intensified Thursday, with over 1,700 arrests on Friday and 5,000 since Monday. Organizers are calling for continued mobilization Tuesday unless "concrete measures" are announced.
