Qatar's PM to visit Tehran for Iran mediation push

Qatar's prime minister will visit Tehran Thursday to revive diplomacy after the US and Iran traded blame over Washington's sanctions targeting Iran's trade partners. The visit follows the June ceasefire collapse, with oil flows at a three-month low. Qatar, a US ally and Iran's Gulf neighbor, previously served as back-channel negotiator and helped secure the June ceasefire. The war nears its sixth month with fighting largely paused, but no breakthrough exists over Strait of Hormuz control, where one-fifth of global oil passed pre-war. Hormuz oil flows fell to 5 million barrels daily Monday, down from 20 million pre-war. Iran and Oman reportedly discussed sharing the waterway, though a senior Iranian source said details remain unresolved. The UN reported 70 incidents in the strait since February 28, killing 19 seafarers.
