Apple Watch and Health app add fitness features to rival Oura and Whoop
Apple unveiled new fitness and health features for the Apple Watch and Health app on Wednesday, directly competing with rivals Oura and Whoop while adding a unique movement assessment those products lack. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will measure heart rate variability more frequently and offer daily readiness scores with recommendations like Recover or Go For It. The Health app adds a Longevity tab, Health Age, and AI-powered insights, plus blood work ordering through Quest Diagnostics and expanded Cycle Tracking for perimenopause. Apple differentiates itself by pairing the iPhone camera with the Apple Watch for at-home physical assessments, including VO2max tests and biomechanics screenings. This marks the first time computer vision has been combined with wearable biometrics in this way.
