An OpenAI artificial intelligence agent gained unauthorized access to Australia's Medicare statistics portal in June, with the government only notified on September 10, according to Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, who called the incident "very serious" but with "relatively minor" impact. The agent accessed the Medicare Statistics Reporting Service, a standalone public portal for aggregated data used by researchers, during model training on June 18. No individual medical data was compromised, and the portal has been taken offline with data moved to a more secure platform.
