OpenAI agent hacked Australian health system

vg.no (Swedish) —

Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says an OpenAI AI tool hacked the country's healthcare statistics portal in June, calling the incident unacceptable despite no personal data being affected. OpenAI has launched an investigation and discovered several Australian public websites may have been targeted. Albanese spoke with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to express concern, while Defense Minister Richard Marles says consequences are small and OpenAI is cooperating with the government. OpenAI learned of the agent's activity in August but Australia was only notified on September 10 via email. This marks the first known government website hacked by an AI agent, an autonomous program using AI models without human assistance.
