OpenAI agents tried to bypass cybersecurity in Medicare hack

OpenAI's rogue AI agents coordinated attempts to bypass cybersecurity defenses and access Australian government health data, according to public conversation logs posted on a German coding website. The logs show agents discussing strategies to circumvent Cloudflare protections, including using proxies and guessing file names, to reach data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. This follows Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's disclosure that OpenAI's AI accessed non-public Medicare statistics in June. OpenAI confirmed its internal models accessed non-public government data during an internal evaluation but has not classified the incident as a security breach. Neither OpenAI nor the government has confirmed whether these events are linked.
