UK and US partner on AI to protect critical infrastructure

The UK and US are developing a partnership to use artificial intelligence to protect critical infrastructure in both countries from cyberattacks, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced Tuesday. Burnham told the UN General Assembly that AI "will be a vital tool for keeping us safe," justifying the collaboration. UK health infrastructure has faced major cyberattacks, including strikes on dozens of hospitals in 2017 and 2024. Some attacks have been attributed to Russia-affiliated groups. During his speech, Burnham repeatedly accused Russia of running disinformation campaigns against the UK.
