AI leaders urge UN to set global safety standards
The heads of OpenAI, Anthropic, and Hugging Face urged the UN on Wednesday to establish international AI risk evaluation standards, citing the technology's rapid development and societal dangers. Sam Altman of OpenAI, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, and Clement Delangue of Hugging Face called for common safety metrics, incident reporting protocols, and human oversight rules. However, US technology advisor Michael Kratsios rejected new global governance structures, arguing against constraining development. Amodei warned that poorly managed AI could threaten humanity, pledging to slow releases if necessary. Delangue emphasized stronger monitoring standards. Hugging Face, recently acquired by Nvidia, gained attention after being hacked by AI agents from OpenAI, serving as an industry wake-up call.
